Alexander Zilinski was born in 1855, in the village of probizna, country of Husiatyn, Halychyna, Western Ukraine. He was the eldest of three children.he served in the Austrian Army. He married and had one child, Mary. After his first wife died, he married Palahia Batiuk. They then had five sons in Ukraine: Nicholas, Joseph, Walter, David and Peter.
Soon News in Western Ukraine came that there was an abundance of land in Western Canada selling 160 acres of land for $10.00. So, in the year 1900, Alexander and his wife and children emigrated to Canada. Once in Canada two more children were born: Michael and Anthony.
life was good to them as they lived in waugh, alberta. They built log houses their first year, and cleared land to grow a garden and grain.
The children grew up and the older ones left home to seek work. The daughter Mary moved to Edmonton where she had marriedand had two daughters of her own. Nicolas, Peter, Joseph and Anthony all purchased their own homesteads and took up farming. Walter and Michael moved out of alberta to seek employment. Michael had left home when he was about 14 years old and never returned home.
