Anthony(tony)&josie story

Anthony, known as tony, was born October 20 1903 in Fort Saskatchewan. In his early twenties he was working on the railroad. He felt sorry for his parents who worked so hard on the farm, so he moved back home and started farming. Life was hard as he started out with horses and a plow, and as time went by he purchased a tractor and machinery.

Tony knew Jossie zayezierski all his life as a neighbour. Josie left school at the age of fifteen and they married. Josie was already a seasoned farm worker. She grew up on a farm with 6 older brothers and 1 sister. The work she married into was not new to her. She could cook, clean, bake bread(16 loaves at a time), milk cows, feed chickens, and just do whatever had to be done. Life was hard for this young bride. At home were tony's elderly parents and brother Metro, and sometimes a threshing crew tp cook for.

As the years went by Tonys parents required more care, so josie worked very hard. Snow had to be melted to provide soft water for washing clothes. Josie remebers her mother-in-law Palahia taking one end of the hevay washed underwear while she took the other end to wring them out in the winter. The knuckles got quite red from scrubbing by hand. the clthes were hung outside and then brought in ike tall soilders to thaw out.

Both of Tony and Josies children were born while they lived on the farm,Albert in 1933 and Lorraine in 1937. Albert attended school for a couple of years at half moon, lake (where his mother attended).
Albert and Lorraine both completed high school in Boyle. Josie operated a cafe in Fort McMurray for a couple of years. Tony and Josie then built a cafe in Boyle called the Metador cafe. The cafe is still in use under different name.

In 1938, Tony passed away. Josie continued running the cafe for a few years then sold it to her brother Casey and his wife. Then in Athabasca she opened a shoe store and operated it for about 12 years. She then retired to Edmonton where she lived with her daughter lorraine.

Albert and Lorraine chose teaching as their professions. Alberta taught high school physical education for many years, then became a principle in Greisbach. Lorraine is also retired in teaching, where she taught up north, and resides in Kelowna BC.

On March 24 2006, Josie passed away living a full life of 88 years.
